Course overview
This qualification reflects the role of workers who provide services to clients in relation to mental health issues. They can provide counselling, referral, advocacy and education/health promotion services. These workers are required to have high level specialist knowledge, skills and competencies especially in regard to laws affecting people with mental health issues, the range of services available to them and health issues related to mental health.
To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 160 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.
Entry requirements
- Minimum age: 18 years at the time of enrolment
- English language proficiency: IELTS 6.0 (5.5 in each module) or equivalent test accepted by the Department of Home Affairs. View accepted tests →

Work placement
This qualification requires 160 hours of supervised work placement in a relevant community or health services setting. Placements are arranged with industry partners and must be completed to be awarded the qualification.

Exit point & award
Students that successfully complete all 20 units of competency as stated in the Course Structure and mandatory 160hrs work placement, will be issued with CHC53315 Diploma of Mental Health.
