Course Description
This qualification reflects the role of building professionals who apply knowledge of structural principles, risk and financial management, estimating, preparing and administering building and construction contracts, selecting contractors, overseeing the work and its quality and managing construction work in building projects including residential and commercial with the following limitations:

Residential construction limited to National Construction Code Class 1 and 10 buildings to a maximum of 3 storeys.

Commercial construction limited to National Construction Code Class 2 to 9 buildings, Type C and B construction.

Course Structure
​
CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) to achieve this qualification, the candidate must demonstrate competency in 27 units of competency:

24 core units

3 elective units
-
a maximum of one unit may be from any training package or accredited course as long as it ensures the integrity of the qualification’s Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) alignment and contributes to a valid, industry supported vocational outcome.
Some units in this qualification may have prerequisite requirements, which must be met when packaging the qualification. Users are referred to the list of CPC units with prerequisite unit requirements available in this Training Package for this purpose.

International Students
​
Innovative College specific course entry requirements for CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) for international students are as follows:
Academic Entry Requirements:

​​​Australian Year 12 or equivalent of Australian HSC;
​English Language Entry Requirements:
​

IELTS score 6.0 (with no bands less than 5.5) or equivalent Pearson Test of English (PTE).

Depending on the student’s country of original, there may be additional English Language requirements that the student needs to meet to get a student visa.
Numeracy and Literacy
All international students must have a minimum of IELTS 6.0 as per published English language entry requirements. Students who need to improve their language and literacy skills must undertake an ELICOS course to gain the required language level prior to commencement into CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building)
Where it is determined that an applicant may not have sufficient English language skills to complete the qualification and work successfully as a builder, they will be provided with the following referrals:

Registered ELICOS provider to undertake an ELICOS course

The NSW AMES for formal assessment, placement and if necessary, specific English Language training.

The NSW Adult Literacy and Numeracy Council (NSWALNC) for assistance. NSWALNC is the peak body for the adult literacy and numeracy practitioners in NSW and have a detailed list of neighbourhood houses, neighbourhood learning centres, TAFE colleges and other providers who offer literacy and numeracy programs and support throughout NSW. http://www.nswalnc.org.au/

Graduates who successfully complete CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) may undertake CPC60220 Advanced Diploma of Building and Construction (Management) or a relevant bachelor degree at a university or higher education provider.

Exit Point/Award
​
Students that complete all 27 units of competency as stated in the Qualification Packaging Rules and Units of Competency will be issued with CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) . This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)
Students that complete some but not all units of competency as stated in the Qualification Packaging Rules and Units of Competency may be issued with a Statement of Attainment. It will identify only those units of competency that have been successfully completed as part of the qualification and recognised nationally under the AQF.
