Course Description

 

This qualification reflects the role of an individual working as a senior civil works designer or a paraprofessional designer, who supports professional engineers. They perform tasks that are broad, specialised, complex and technical and include strategic areas and initiating activities.

 

They are responsible for the design of complex projects to ensure the implementation of the client’s site requirements and are required to demonstrate self-directed application of theoretical and technical knowledge and initiate solutions to technical problems or management requirements.

UEE30820 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician, to achieve this qualification, the candidate must demonstrate competency in:

International Students

Innovative College’s specific course entry requirements for RII60520 - Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design for international students are as follows:


Academic Entry Requirements:

​​​​

  • Australian Year 12 or equivalent of Australian HSC;


​English Language Entry Requirements:

​ 

  • IELTS score 6.0 (with no bands less than 5.5) or equivalent Pearson Test of English (PTE).

  • Depending on the student’s country of origin, there may be additional English Language requirements that the student needs to meet to get a student visa. For more information, please check the Department of Home Affairs website, https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/student-500 for this course will be required to access computers for learning purposes and to complete course assessments.

 

Numeracy and Literacy

  • All international students must have a minimum of IELTS 6.0 as per published English language entry requirements. Students who need to improve their language and literacy skills must undertake an ELICOS course to gain the required language level prior to commencement into RII60520 - Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design 

 

Where it is determined that an applicant may not have sufficient English language skills to complete the qualification and work successfully as a carpenter, they will be provided with the following referrals:

  • Registered ELICOS provider to undertake an ELICOS course

  • The NSW AMES for formal assessment, placement and if necessary, specific English Language training. http://www.ames.edu.au

  • The NSW Adult Literacy and Numeracy Council (NSWALNC) for assistance. NSWALNC is the peak body for the adult literacy and numeracy practitioners in NSW and have a detailed list of neighbourhood houses, neighbourhood learning centres, TAFE colleges and other providers who offer literacy and numeracy programs and support throughout NSW. http://www.nswalnc.org.au/

Career Opportunities

 

​Students who successfully complete RII60520 - Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design may undertake work as a civil construction design engineer.

​

Education Pathways

 

Graduates from this course may apply for their electrical licence from NSW Fair Trading if they also have: 

  • a certificate of proficiency as an electrician or an electrical mechanic from the Vocational Training Review Panel of NSW (the VTRP) or its predecessors

  • at least 12 months relevant electrical wiring work experience using knowledge and understanding of the wiring rules AS/NZS 3000:2018. This experience must be in the residential, commercial and/or industrial areas required by our ‘Referee’s Statement Electrical Work’ form; and

  • any other information required by NSW Fair Trading including an assessment of your understanding of the current edition of the wiring rules AS/NZS 3000-2018 and/or evidence of your employment to confirm any employment periods.

 

Exit Point/Award

 

Students who complete all 12 units of competency as stated in the Qualification Packaging Rules and Units of Competency will be issued with RII60520 - Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design. This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

Students who complete some but not all units of competency as stated in the Qualification Packaging Rules and Units of Competency may be issued with a Statement of Attainment. It will identify only those units of competency that have been successfully completed as part of the qualification and recognised nationally under the AQF.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfers

 

Fast track your way to a formal qualification by earning credit for what you already know. If you believe you have related skills or have relevant units/qualifications obtained in previous successful studies, please indicate on your Application Form that you wish to apply for RPL/Credit.
